Description
This one-hour webinar will be used to train physicians and other care team members registered for the AHA/AMA joint Target: BP™ initiative, on the “Measure Accurately” component M.A.P. Framework. M.A.P. stands for Measure Accurately, Act Rapidly, and Partner with Patients, Families and Communities.

Blood pressure variability, poor blood pressure measurement technique and white-coat effect contribute to uncertainty about what a patient’s true blood pressure is.  This uncertainty about the reliability of a patient’s blood pressure reading is a leading cause of clinicians failing to act to manage high blood pressure (therapeutic inertia).

Estimated Time to Complete the Educational Activity
15:25 minutes

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this online course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe accurate blood pressure measurement as the foundation for accurately diagnosing and managing high blood pressure.

  1. Describe the impact that unreliable blood pressure measurements can have on clinical decisions.

  1. List factors (patient, observer, system) that can make blood pressure readings inaccurate and identify strategies to overcome those factors.

  1. Use Measure Accurately tools to identify opportunities for improving accuracy and reliability of blood pressure measurement.
