Description
The AHA Research Leaders Academy was launched to create an annual platform to ensure that the AHA and its research leaders are best equipped to achieve the AHA’s Mission. Components of this platform include a systematic debate of important contemporary and future issues within the global research environment as well as fostering a robust professional network of academy members of all career stages within the cardiovascular and stroke fields.
 

Learning Objectives 
At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate an increased understanding of important contemporary and future issues within the global research environment, particularly in cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
  1. Develop leadership and management skills such that they are poised to assume or sustain leadership roles in support of achieving the AHA’s Mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
  1. Formulate a set of personal techniques that will increase professionalism, ethical behavior and personal well-being.
  1. Analyze information and opportunities to increase and improve collaboration among investigators to bridge areas of basic, clinical and population research. 
  1. Debate current science-based topics related to cardiovascular diseases and stroke research.
  1. Promote networking and mentorship with other Academy participants especially between early career members and senior investigators for scientific outreach and career building.

Accreditation Statements:
In support of improving patient care, American Heart Association is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

AMA Credit Designation Statement - Physicians
The American Heart Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 16.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AAPA Credit Acceptance Statement – Physician Assistants
AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 16.50 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

AANP Credit Acceptance Statement – Nurse Practitioners
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM from organizations accredited by the ACCME. **AMA Credit must be claimed within 6 months of attendance. Credit will no longer be available to claim after March 19, 2018.
